What is Shiba Inu Rescue Association [SIRA]?
Shiba Inu Rescue Association (SIRA) is an all volunteer organization dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected and abused Shiba Inu, Shiba mixes and other primitive breeds from commercial breeders, shelters and owners. We evaluate each dog for temperament and place them in nurturing foster homes where their needs, medical and otherwise, are addressed in order to prepare them to be placed in thoroughly screened, loving, lifelong forever homes. SIRA also works to educate the public on the Shiba Inu breed in addition to the importance of responsible pet ownership including spaying/neutering, dog training and obtaining a dog from a reputable breeder or rescue group.
Currently the majority of our volunteers are in Chicago, IL and the surrounding suburbs. We do have volunteers in Indianapolis, IN, Madison, WI, Detroit/Toledo, MI, St. Louis, MO, Phoenix, AZ and southern IL. We are ever expanding so if you are interested in volunteering please read the Help the Shibas page.
SIRA is a recognized not-for-profit corporation in the State of Illinois. We are in the process of obtaining our 501(c)3 status.
Meet the Shiba Inu Rescue Association Founders
Aimee and Beth have been involved in rescuing Shibas since 2003. In that time they have fostered and placed over 60 Shibas, Shiba Mixes and Jindos. They have also helped over 60 other dogs by performing evaluations, providing temporary foster care and filling legs of transports. They even picked up a stray Shiba named Buddy in their home town and reunited him and his family!
Recently they began taking in independent rescue dogs and this was the birth of Shiba Inu Rescue Association. They are a mom and daughter team dedicated to the rescuing any Shiba Inu or other primitive breed in need.
