Meet Kaminari!
July 29, 2008
Kaminari (Ari for short) was transfered from another rescue group along with 4 other females after being dumped from a puppy mill. Due to probably never being out of a kennel before, he is quite curious of his new surroundings. He gets along well with others.
Ari has never had the chance to be a pampered pet, but seems eager to please. It only took him a couple of days to pick up a toy and start squeaking it. He needs a family that will understand that it will take some time for him to learn how to be a dog. It took only one day for him to realize being on a leash meant going out. His breakthroughs will be seem small but they will be vastly more rewarding. Things like taking a treat from your hand, going on walks and being confident while doing so, walking up to you to have his leash put on, playing with a toy (when he thinks no one is watching), etc. These are the kinds of behaviors we don't usually give much notice to when more confident dogs do them everyday. It really is special when a puppy mill survivor starts doing them, and they eventually do. It just takes time and patience
Ari would do best as an only dog or a dog that doesn’t play rough (he doesn’t know quite what to make of that behavior). He also needs a family that can help him get into shape, he needs to shed some pounds, without pushing it too fast. He likes going on walks but due to his current weight tires out quickly. Obedience training would help him build his confidence and bond with his new family.
